Plans & Coverage
Medicare Advantage (Part C) Plans
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurers approved by Medicare. Plans bundle Part A, Part B, and usually Part D drug coverage, often adding dental, vision, and hearing — with a provider network and a yearly out-of-pocket maximum. In Sampson County there are about 11 plans; the right one depends on your doctors and prescriptions.
What's included
Hospital (Part A) and medical (Part B), usually Part D drug coverage, and extras many plans add: dental, vision, hearing, OTC allowance, fitness, and transportation. Every plan has a maximum out-of-pocket that caps your yearly costs.
HMO vs PPO
An HMO keeps costs lower but uses a provider network and referrals. A PPO lets you go out-of-network at a higher cost without referrals. In the Clinton, NC market, confirm whether Sampson Regional Medical Center (and your doctors) are in-network before you choose.
Questions, answered
Is a $0 premium Medicare Advantage plan really free?
No. A $0 plan premium means no extra monthly premium beyond your Part B premium, but you still have copays, a possible drug deductible, and a max out-of-pocket. Two $0 plans can differ by thousands in real cost.
Will my doctors be covered under Medicare Advantage?
It depends on the plan's network. HMO plans require in-network providers; PPO plans offer out-of-network flexibility at higher cost. We verify your specific doctors and hospital against every plan before you enroll.
What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare?
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is federal coverage with no network restrictions and no out-of-pocket maximum. Medicare Advantage is an all-in-one private plan that adds an annual spending cap and usually drug coverage and extras, but requires using a provider network.
Can I switch Medicare Advantage plans every year?
Yes. During the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7) you can switch, drop, or join a Medicare Advantage plan. Changes take effect January 1. We review your plan each fall.
Do Medicare Advantage plans cover prescriptions?
Most Medicare Advantage plans include Part D drug coverage (MAPD plans). If your plan does not include drug coverage, you would need a standalone Part D plan. We confirm drug coverage and formulary before you enroll.
What is the Medicare Advantage out-of-pocket maximum?
Every Medicare Advantage plan is required to have an annual out-of-pocket maximum — the most you pay in a year for covered services. For 2026 the federal cap is set by CMS. Once you reach your plan's limit, covered services cost you $0 for the rest of the year.
